In a disturbing incident on May 5, 2025, a Mississippi man was arrested and charged with felony stalking and vandalism after allegedly crashing his vehicle into the front gate of actress Jennifer Aniston's Bel-Air residence. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jimmy Wayne Carwyle from New Albany, Mississippi, had reportedly been harassing Aniston for over two years prior to the incident.
Incident Details
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Carwyle drove his Chrysler PT Cruiser into the gate of Aniston's home around 12:20 p.m. while she was inside the residence. A private security guard, who was an off-duty LAPD officer, detained Carwyle at gunpoint until police arrived. Carwyle sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken into custody without further incident.
History of Harassment
Prosecutors allege that Carwyle had been harassing Aniston since March 2023, sending her unwanted voicemails, emails, and social media messages. Some of these messages referred to Aniston as his "bride," and he even addressed her as "Jennifer Joanna Aniston Carwyle" in certain communications.
Court Proceedings
Carwyle appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on May 8, 2025, shirtless and wrapped in a blanket. He did not speak during the proceedings, and his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Judge Keith L. Schwartz ordered a mental health evaluation to determine Carwyle's competency to stand trial. The judge also issued a protective order prohibiting any contact with Aniston. Carwyle's bail was set at $150,000.
Potential Penalties
If convicted of the charges, Carwyle faces up to three years in state prison. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office emphasized the seriousness of stalking offenses and their commitment to prosecuting such cases to ensure the safety of victims.
Aniston's representatives have not publicly commented on the incident. The actress, known for her role on "Friends" and her current work on "The Morning Show," purchased the Bel-Air property in 2012 for approximately $21 million.
Carwyle's next court appearance is scheduled for May 22, 2025, in the Mental Health Court in Hollywood.
